Dr. John O’Rourke completed his Radiology training at St Vincent’s and Westmead Hospitals in Sydney and in 2005 completed a one-year Fellowship in Body Imaging and MRI at St Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He has worked at St Vincent’s General and Private Hospitals and was the Clinical Director at the Westmead practice of a large corporate radiology group. In 2011 with tertiary cardiologists, he co-founded HeartScan Institute, a dedicated facility to teach local and international specialists in advanced coronary artery CT imaging. In 2012, Dr. O’Rourke established Medscan Merrylands and HeartScan Australia. In conjunction with Westmead Hospital and local cardiologists, Medscan and HeartScan Australia has established itself as the premier provider of high-level cardiac imaging including CTCA, echocardiography, and cardiac MRI imaging. Our team is one of the largest providers of CTCA imaging in Australia and a leader in cardiac MRI reporting.

Dr. James Black trained in Medicine in WA and completed residency in Sydney at Royal North Shore Hospital in the early 90’s. He returned to WA for Radiology training and subsequently undertook a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital in London in 1997. In 1998, he undertook a further Fellowship in Advanced Body and Oncological Imaging at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. James returned to Australia in 1999 and worked as a consultant Radiologist in both public (Royal Perth Hospital) and private practice in Perth where he was involved in multi-disciplinary meetings for colorectal, breast, and lung malignancy and oversaw a large referral base from Urology, Colorectal, and Gastroenterology groups who were based in the Hospital and environs. James has a subspecialty interest in oncological/body imaging with CT including tumor staging and extensive experience in body MRI with an interest in prostate and rectal cancer staging and gynecological malignancy. James also has significant experience in body and spinal intervention and ultrasound-guided pain management.
In 2016, Dr O’Rourke and Dr Black opened new practices in Double Bay and Barangaroo. In 2018, another city practice was added.
